In 2024, the European Charter for Researchers replaced two previously applicable documents: the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.
Currently, the direction of actions under HRS4R is guided by the European Charter for Researchers, which:
- constitutes a set of principles underlying the development of attractive scientific careers to support excellence in scientific research and innovation throughout Europe,
- describes the rights and obligations of researchers, employers, funding bodies, and policymakers, ensuring equal treatment and opportunities for the professional development of science employees,
- includes 20 key principles, classified under the following 4 pillars:
Pillar 1. Ethics, Integrity, Gender, and Open Science,
Pillar 2. Evaluation of researchers, recruitment and promotion,
Pillar 3. Working conditions and practices,
Pillar 4. Academic careers and talent development.
