On July 4 this year, at the Monument to the Martyrdom of Lviv Professors, in Prof. Kazimierz Idaszewski Square, a ceremony was held to commemorate the crime committed in July 1941 in Lviv. Forty-five people were shot in the back of the head, including 24 professors from Polish universities in Lviv and 21 members of their families and colleagues. This German crime is referred to as the murder of Lviv professors or the crime on the Wuleckie Hills.
In the post-war years, political conditions made it impossible to commemorate this event, and it was not until 1964 that a monument designed by Prof. Borys Michałowski was erected in Wrocław.
The ceremony was organized by the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. The Hirszfeld Institute was represented by Director Prof. Andrzej Gamian and Bogumiła Szponar, PhD, DSc.
