On 17 October 2025, the main part of the event “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants. Polish Scientists and Scholars in Europe – Legacy and the Present” will take place at the Polish Academy of Sciences Scientific Center in Paris. The event is organised to mark Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The meeting aims to highlight the influence of Polish scientists on the development of European science, both in a historical and contemporary context.
One of the speakers will be Prof. Andrzej Gamian, Director of the Ludwik Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Prof. Gamian’s presence among the representatives of the Polish Academy of Sciences emphasises the importance of the research conducted at the IIET PAS and its connection with the priorities of European research and development policy.
The event will be an opportunity for an international exchange of reflections on the place of Polish science in Europe – in the past, present, and future.
The exhibition accompanying the conference can be visited at the headquarters of the Polish Academy of Sciences Scientific Center in Paris from 1 to 28 October 2025, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The exhibition presents the profiles of Professor Ludwik Hirszfeld and his wife Hanna, while also highlighting the IIET PAS as the successor to the legacy left by these outstanding researchers.
