On 15 November 2025, the Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of the Polish Academy of Sciences joined the Max Born Wrocław Research Alliance, established jointly with the Wrocław University of Science and Technology and the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The agreement was signed by Prof. Andrzej Gamian, Director of the IIET PAS, Prof. Arkadiusz Wójs, Rector of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and Prof. Dariusz Kaczorowski, Director of the ILTSR PAS.
The aim of the Alliance is to develop basic and interdisciplinary research in areas such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and medicine, as well as to create a friendly environment for educating doctoral students and supporting young scientists.
“Cooperation with Wrocław University of Science and Technology, one of the most important technical universities in the country, will allow us to better respond to global scientific trends. By combining the potential of our institutions, we gain an opportunity to streamline our work, reduce research costs, and significantly develop interdisciplinary projects,” emphasised Prof. Andrzej Gamian during the signing of the agreement.
The Alliance plans to include, among other things:
- creating joint inter-institutional research teams, including interdisciplinary teams and teams involving doctoral students,
- facilitating mutual access to research infrastructure and resources,
- joint activities for the development of scientific staff,
- organising scientific events and events promoting science,
- implementing research projects and grant initiatives, combining the potential of the three units.
Cooperation between institutions with A+ ratings in their respective disciplines creates a strong platform for world-class research. The decision to establish the Alliance also formalises the long-standing cooperation between the institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
The patron of the Alliance is Max Born, an outstanding physicist and mathematician born in Wrocław, winner of the 1954 Nobel Prize, and one of the founders of quantum mechanics. His achievements symbolise the highest standards of research courage, interdisciplinarity, and scientific integrity – values that guide the new agreement.
