The Laboratory of Microbial Immunochemistry and Vaccines wins the NCN SHENG 4 competition for bilateral Polish-Chinese research projects

We are pleased to announce that the Laboratory of Microbial Immunochemistry and Vaccines has won the NCN SHENG 4 competition for bilateral Polish-Chinese research projects, taking first place in the ranking for the entire NZ area and receiving funding in the amount of PLN 2,964,116.

Project title: Chemical synthesis, immunological evaluation and epitope analysis of carbohydrate antigens of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

This interdisciplinary project combines the fields of carbohydrate chemistry (sugars), glycobiology, and immunology. International collaboration between chemists, who will provide defined sugar antigens, and glycobiologists and immunologists, who are specialists in glycobiology and acquired immunity, is crucial to the success of the entire project. The ultimate goal is to develop a synthetic glycoconjugate vaccine against P. aeruginosa, which could also serve as a valuable reference point for immunogenicity studies of other bacterial sugar antigens in the future.

Project team:

Polish side (expertise: immunochemistry, immunology of glycoconjugates)

  • Prof. Jolanta Łukasiewicz, PhD, DSc – project manager
  • Marta Kaszowska, PhD, DSc
  • Anna Maciejewska, PhD

Cooperation:

  • Prof. Arkadiusz Miążek, PhD, DSc (Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences)
  • Dr. Grzegorz Chodaczek, PhD, DSc (Confocal Microscopy Laboratory, Łukasiewicz – PORT)

Chinese side (expertise: chemical synthesis)

  • Prof. Yin Jian, Jiangnan University, Wuxi – team leader

Cooperation:

  • Prof. Biao Yu, Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Polish-Chinese cooperation developed naturally – from a joint publication in Carbohydrate Research, through networking during the International Carbohydrate Symposium (ICS2024), to joint success in the SHENG 4 competition.
