We are proud to announce that on 7 April 2026, the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, conferred upon Sabina Górska, PhD, DSc, Head of the Laboratory of Microbiome Immunobiology at the IIET PAS, the title of Professor of exact and natural sciences in the discipline of biological sciences. Being included in the elite group of people awarded this honourable title is a special and highest expression of recognition for scientific achievements.
Professor Sabina Górska conducts research in the fields of microbiology and immunology. Her research focuses on investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying the interaction between microorganisms that make up the microbiome and the human immune system, with particular emphasis on the role of probiotics and bacterial effector molecules in regulating the immune response. Her research falls within one of the most important and rapidly developing areas of modern biology and medicine: understanding the role of the microbiota in maintaining human health and in the pathogenesis of many inflammatory and immune-mediated diseases.
She is the Head of the Microbiome Immunobiology Laboratory, a member of the Scientific Council of the IIET PAS, the Scientific Council of the IIET PAS Doctoral School, and the Committee on Immunology and the Aetiology of Infectious Diseases. She is the author of over 97 scientific papers and 6 national and international patents, and has completed over 20 projects funded by the National Science Centre (NCN), the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR), the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) and the European Union. Her work is widely cited in scientific literature, with a total of over 5,000 citations and a Hirsch index of 27 (according to Scopus). She has supervised 3 PhD theses and over 10 master’s theses. She is an expert for PARP, ABM, ANR, NAWA, NCN, NCBiR, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and Wrocław City Council. She has reviewed theses in PhD and habilitation proceedings.
Between 2012 and 2015, she received a scholarship from the Minister of Science and Higher Education for outstanding young researchers. She gained her knowledge and professional experience both in Poland and abroad: at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden; Stanford University, United States; and the Laboratory of Gnotobiology, Nový Hradek, Czech Republic. She collaborates with research centres in Poland and abroad (Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, the USA, Sweden and Spain), sharing her expertise in immunobiology, immunochemistry and mucosal immunology. She is a mentor who inspires new generations of young scientists to follow the path of discovery and innovation (TopMinds Programme). Aware of how important it is to share knowledge to ensure continuous development, she co-founded StacjaIITD (www.stacja.iitd.pl), a platform where she conducts interviews with scientists and organises workshops for young students to promote science in an easy and accessible way.
She has also developed her expertise in intellectual property law, project management, knowledge transfer and commercialisation. She completed postgraduate studies at the University of Economics in project and research management (IPMA Level D) and Startup Excellence, and postgraduate studies in the design and conduct of clinical trials at the Wrocław Medical University.
