Emilia Jaskuła, PhD, Eng.

Biotechnologist, laboratory diagnostician, specialist in clinical laboratory immunology, leader of cell therapy projects

Emilia Jaskuła, PhD, Eng., combines three roles rarely found in a single person: researcher, diagnostician and implementation project manager. She is an assistant professor at the Laboratory of Genetics and Epigenetics of Human Diseases at the IIET PAS and a senior laboratory diagnostics specialist at the HLA Tissue Compatibility Antigen Testing Laboratory of the Lower Silesian Centre for Oncology, Pulmonology and Haematology in Wrocław.

Cell therapies – throughout her career

She has been involved in this field since the very start of her career. She began with issues related to haematopoietic cell transplants, donor–recipient matching and post-transplant complications. Her research has focused on risk factors affecting transplant outcomes – immune reconstitution, viral infections, GvHD and disease relapse. She is currently also investigating the impact of immune checkpoints on tumour development and resistance to therapy, but most of her time is devoted to research into the development of new therapies.

CAR-T and TCR-T therapies in blood cancers

She leads the TACTIC project, funded by the Medical Research Agency under the National Reconstruction Plan, which is developing TCR-T and TCR-based CAR-T therapies for the treatment of acute myeloid leukaemia. She is also the task leader, coordinator and a member of the Consortium Board in a project concerning CAR-T therapy in relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma. Her work covers the entire preclinical research chain: from construct design, cell optimisation and in vitro studies, through the development of research methodologies, to the scientific supervision of teams.

Molecular diagnostics as the foundation of targeted therapy

She has developed and implemented a range of diagnostic methods for clinical use, primarily in the field of genetics. She is currently a mentor for an implementation PhD project, which has led to the implementation of IGHV status and TP53 mutation testing using NGS in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, in accordance with ERIC guidelines, as the standard for eligibility for targeted therapies.

Research that leads to implementation

Co-author of 38 scientific publications. She holds an IPMA project management certificate (Level D) and has many years’ experience in securing, managing and accounting for R&D projects – ranging from capital projects, such as laboratory construction, to basic research projects and those involving the commercialisation of results (for many years she managed the company Cells Therapy). In 2025, she was honoured with the title of Wrocław Woman of the Year in the Science category. For Dr Jaskuła, the phrase “from academic research to treating patients” is not a conference slogan, but a description of her daily work.
