On 13 October, a meeting of the Steering Committee for the Phage4Crops project (CA25147) was held in Brussels, attended by Michał Wójcicki, PhD, Eng., from the Bacteriophage Laboratory of the Department of Phage Therapy at our Institute.
Phage4Crops (Bacteriophages for crop protection: Discovery, Exploration, Application & Society) is a European initiative carried out under the COST programme, which aims to develop scientific collaboration and expand knowledge regarding the use of bacteriophages in plant protection.
The initiative’s activities include the search for and characterisation of bacteriophages targeted at eliminating plant-pathogenic bacteria, investigating their potential in biological crop protection, and developing guidelines for their practical application. Another key element of the initiative is the exchange of expertise between scientists and collaboration with farmers, industry and regulatory bodies responsible for plant protection.
Dr Michał Wójcicki’s participation in the meeting forms part of our Institute’s commitment to international research collaboration and the development of innovative methods for crop protection. Advances in research on bacteriophages open up new prospects for biological plant protection and the search for solutions to the contemporary challenges facing agriculture.
