Six foreign stations of the Polish Academy of Sciences have jointly developed the exhibition ‘Standing on the Shoulders of Giants. Polish Scientist and Scholars in Europe – legacy and present day’. The exhibition provokes reflection on the fact that contemporary discoveries stem from the achievements and ideas of former pioneers. Its aim is not only to present the profiles of outstanding scientists, but also to show their contemporary successors and highlight their presence in the European research space.
The exhibition is divided into several thematic sections illustrating the achievements of Polish scientists in selected research areas. The ‘Health’ section presents the profiles of Ludwik Hirszfeld and his wife Hanna, while also highlighting the Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of the Polish Academy of Sciences as the successor to the legacy left by these outstanding researchers.
The exhibition premiered on 23-24 June in Brussels. In the second half of the year, the exhibition will begin a European tour and will be presented in cities where the Polish Academy of Sciences has foreign stations – in Berlin, Kiev, Paris, Rome and Vienna.
