Anna Jarząb, PhD, Eng, from the Medical Microbiology Laboratory IIET PAS, biotechnologist and winner of the L’Oréal-UNESCO ‘For Women in Science’ programme, was a guest on the Polish Academy of Sciences’ ‘Człowiek 2.0’ podcast, hosted by Jan Stradowski. During the conversation, she talked about her research on new-generation vaccines, including a vaccine against Shigella, a bacterium that causes dysentery.
The episode touched upon topics such as the role of fever in the immune response, the design of protein-based vaccines, and the challenges associated with treating diseases affecting countries in the global South. Dr Jarząb also presented the results of her work on one of the first data repositories showing how the proteomes of different organisms respond to temperature increases, which may pave the way for cheaper and more universal vaccines.
The ‘Człowiek 2.0’ podcast is a series by the Polish Academy of Sciences devoted to research that is changing our understanding of the world – from immunology to artificial intelligence.
