Professor Andrzej Gamian awarded the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity

We are proud to announce that the Director of the Institute, Professor Andrzej Gamian, has been awarded the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity.

The award ceremony accompanied the celebrations of the 45th anniversary of the founding of the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union “Solidarity” and the 45th anniversary of the registration of the Independent Students’ Association. The ceremony, organized by the Institute of National Remembrance, took place on February 19 at the Wrocław University of Technology and was held under the honorary patronage of the President of Poland.

The President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, expressed his appreciation to the Dames and Knights of the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity and thanked them for their courage and contributions to the fight for Poland’s independence. The ceremony was presided over by the director of the IPN branch in Wrocław, Kamil Dworaczek, PhD, DSc.

The Cross of Freedom and Solidarity is a Polish state civilian decoration awarded to distinguished opposition activists from 1956 to 1989. It is awarded at the request of the President of the Institute of National Remembrance – Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation. The decoration was established by the Act of August 5, 2010, adopted by the Parliament of the Republic of Poland at the same time as the act of restitution of the Cross of Independence, to whose proud tradition it refers.
