High Position of the Hirszfeld Institute in the SCImago 2026 Ranking

The latest SRI (SCImago Institutions Rankings) rankings, compiled by the SCImago Research Group, have been published. They assess universities, research institutes, companies and public organisations on the basis of their scientific and innovative activities.

The Hirszfeld Institute ranked a high third in the sector of national government institutions, behind the Mossakowski Medical Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

In the ‘Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceutics’ category, the IIET PAS took second place among Polish government institutions – behind the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences – and 755th place in the global ranking. A total of 10,827 institutions were ranked in the 2026 edition, of which 2,331 were in the government sector.

The SCImago ranking is based primarily on bibliometric data from the Scopus database and analyses three main areas:

Research – the most important component of the ranking, covering, among other things, the number of publications and citations, the proportion of publications in the top 10% of most-cited publications, and international collaboration (50% of points)

Innovation – number of patents, collaboration with industry (30%)

Societal Impact – presence and influence in the media and online, visibility of the institution’s website, societal impact of research (20%)

The IIET PAS ranks in the top quartile in the fields of scientific research and innovation. Its high position in the SRI ranking and its place among the very top institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences confirm the Hirszfeld Institute’s strong scientific standing and the high quality of its research. The SCImago ranking is one of the most important international rankings assessing the scientific output of institutions; therefore, the Institute’s high position translates into greater visibility within the global scientific community, strengthening its potential for international collaboration and participation in prestigious research projects. These results are consistent with the high assessment of the Institute’s scientific activity in the national evaluation – the IIET PAS holds an A+ category in the medical sciences and an A category in the biological sciences.
