Marta Sochocka, PhD, DSc, from the Virology Laboratory at the IIET PAS took part in a panel discussion during the 12th Wrocław Women’s Forum – an event organised by the Western Chamber of Commerce – Employers and Entrepreneurs, which for many years has brought together representatives from the worlds of science, business, culture and new technologies.
The invitation to participate in the panel was linked to the ‘30 Creative People of Wrocław’ award. The discussion focused, amongst other things, on the role of creativity, the challenges facing modern science, collaboration between the scientific community and the business sector, and how scientific research can respond to societal needs and shape the future.
In her speech, Marta Sochocka, PhD, DSc, emphasised that Alzheimer’s disease does not originate solely in the brain; therefore, understanding it requires a broad, interdisciplinary approach and collaboration between specialists from various fields. She also pointed out that the greatest value of science lies not solely in publications, but in the moment when research findings translate into an improved quality of life for people and find real-world applications.
Participation in events such as the Wrocław Women’s Forum demonstrates that the findings of research carried out at the Hirszfeld Institute are an important part of the debate, not only within the academic community but also in the social and economic spheres. It is precisely this dialogue between science, business and society that fosters the development of innovative solutions to the challenges of the modern world.
