B. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES FOR THE POSITION

  1. Isolation and culture of mesenchymal stem cells in 2D and as 3D spheroids using a bioreactor.
  2. Preparation of three-dimensional cell culture constructs with biomaterials.
  3. Microscopic studies using immunofluorescence techniques and long-term real-time observation of cells using automated time-lapse microscopy.
  4. Performing functional assays and molecular biology techniques to assess the osteogenic and chondrogenic potential of tissue-engineered constructs and their biocompatibility.
  5. Conducting research on cancer cell biology and assessing the activity of substances with therapeutic potential.

 

C. REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDATES

  1. Formal and substantive requirements to be met by the Candidate (in accordance with § 4 (3) (k) and § 4 (4) of the Regulations for conducting competitions for scientific positions at HIIET PAS)

A Candidate applying for the announced scientific position should demonstrate strong motivation for scientific work, the ability to work in a team, independence, responsibility, and commitment to carrying out the planned tasks.

In particular, the Candidate should:[1]

  • hold a doctoral (PhD) degree in the discipline of biological or medical sciences (or a related field),
  •  have at least 8 years of scientific research experience,
  • have knowledge and experience in planning and conducting scientific research on cell biology in the context of regenerative medicine; knowledge of 2D and 3D cell culture methods in bioreactors and in vitro disease modeling; practical knowledge of microscopy techniques, including immunofluorescence techniques, real-time time-lapse observation, and monitoring of 3D structures, e.g. using the Apotome module,
  • have knowledge and experience in the application of methods for culturing normal and cancer cells, cell isolation, stem cell differentiation, cell culture on biomaterials, knowledge of methods for functional testing of tissue-engineered constructs and their biocompatibility, and the use of molecular biology techniques, including assessment of gene expression by real-time PCR,
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team, as well as knowledge of statistical software used to analyze results,
  • demonstrate active participation in scientific life, documented by presenting the results of own research in scientific publications, including at least 3 scientific papers with an IF in which the Candidate is a leading author (first / co-first / last), published within the 5 years preceding submission of the application to the competition, including at least 2 original publications, with at least 1 publication in which the Candidate is the corresponding author
  • document active participation in the implementation of scientific projects as a project team member/project leader
  • demonstrate participation in the supervision of junior scientific staff
  • document completed scientific internships or employment in more than one scientific/research institution
  • present ongoing, documented scientific collaborations,
  • have a good command of spoken and written English,
  • optionally, other qualifications (e.g. specialist certificates).
  1. Additional skills and experience of the Candidate desirable for the position (in accordance with § 4 sec. 3 letter k of the Regulations for conducting competitions for scientific positions at IITD PAS) (to be completed by the Applicant)
  • Participation in professional training in the operation of a light microscope for specimen imaging, an inverted fluorescence microscope, and a semi-confocal microscope/module, preferably confirmed by a certificate.
  • Participation in professional training in the operation of equipment for performing real-time PCR, with a certificate being desirable.
  • Experience working with a ClinoStar Bioreactor for 3D culture.

Detailed recommendations concerning the minimum formal requirements for persons applying through a competition for employment in scientific positions at the Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of the Polish Academy of Sciences are specified in Appendix No. 1 to the Regulations for conducting competitions for scientific positions at HIIET PAS. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of the Candidate Evaluation Form (Appendix No. 2 to the Regulations).

  1. copy of a diploma certifying the award of a professional title or academic degree in the fields and disciplines of science indicated in the competition,
  2. cover letter,
  3. CV presenting the Candidate’s scientific profile (including career history, career breaks if the Candidate considers it appropriate to disclose them, publications with a description of the Candidate’s contribution to their preparation, completed practical placements, internships, training courses, workshops, participation in or management of grants),
  4. description of the most important scientific achievement/achievements,
  5. research plan,
  6. other documents confirming fulfilment of the requirements (e.g. letters of recommendation, certificates, etc.).
