DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The Candidate will be responsible for:
- Biological, morphological and genomic characterization of bacteriophages,
• Conducting cell culture experiments, including co-cultures of different cell types, and investigating the effects of bacteriophages on cell growth and immune activity,
• Investigating the interactions of newly isolated bacteriophages with mammalian cells,
• Analysis of the immunomodulatory properties of bacteriophages,
• Supervision of students and trainees,
• Applying for external research funding,
• Presenting research results at scientific conferences,
• Preparation of scientific publications based on the research conducted.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDATES
- Formal and substantive requirements to be met by the Candidate
(in accordance with § 4(3)(k) and § 4(4) of the Regulations for conducting competitions for scientific positions at the Ludwik Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy, Polish Academy of Sciences)
A Candidate applying for the advertised scientific position should demonstrate strong motivation for scientific research, the ability to work in a team, independence, responsibility, and commitment to the implementation of planned tasks.
In particular, the Candidate should:
- hold a Master’s degree, Master’s degree in Engineering, or an equivalent degree in biological sciences, medical sciences, or a related field,
- have at least 5 years of research experience,
- have knowledge and experience in planning and conducting research in the field of bacteriophage biology, documented by at least 3 scientific publications indexed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), in which the Candidate is the lead author,
- have knowledge and experience in culturing different types of eukaryotic cells (commercial cell lines, animal-derived cells, and co-cultures),
- demonstrate active participation in scientific activities, documented by the presentation of their own research results in scientific publications, including at least 3 original research articles with an Impact Factor (IF), in which the Candidate is the lead and/or corresponding author,
- document active participation in the preparation and implementation of research projects as a project team member and/or project leader,
- demonstrate experience in supervising students and/or trainees,
- document completed research internships or employment at more than one scientific/research institution,
- provide evidence of ongoing scientific collaborations,
- demonstrate active participation in science communication and outreach activities.

Detailed recommendations concerning the minimum formal requirements for candidates applying through a competition for scientific positions at the Ludwik Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy, Polish Academy of Sciences, are specified in Annex No. 1 to the Regulations for conducting competitions for scientific positions at the Ludwik Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy, Polish Academy of Sciences. Candidates will be evaluated based on the Candidate Evaluation Form (Annex No. 2 to the Regulations).
- A copy of the diploma confirming the academic degree obtained,
- A cover letter,
- A CV presenting the Candidate’s scientific profile (including, among other things, career history, career breaks, if the Candidate considers it appropriate to disclose them, a list of publications with a description of the Candidate’s contribution to their preparation, completed internships, research stays, training courses and workshops, participation in or management of research grants, supervision of students and/or trainees, and science communication activities),
- A description of the most important scientific achievement(s),
- The Candidate’s research plan,
- Other documents confirming the fulfilment of the requirements (e.g. letters of recommendation, certificates, etc.).

Candidates will be contacted by e-mail at the address from which the application was submitted or in another manner agreed with the Candidate.
The competition will be concluded by 30 October 2026, and Candidates will be notified of the results by e-mail. The Committee reserves the right not to select any of the Candidates in the competition. In such a case, the competition may be/will be announced again.
