On Friday, December 13, Hanna and Ludwik Hirszfeld joined the elite group of patrons of Wrocław trams. The naming ceremony was attended by city authorities, representatives of MPK Wrocław, as well as scientists from the Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of the Polish Academy of Sciences and from Wrocław Medical University.
The ceremony began with a press conference, during which speeches were given by, among others, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs Lukasz Laczmanski, DSc, and Prof. Janusz Boratyński from the Laboratory of Biomedical Chemistry. Afterwards, a tram named after the Hirszfelds took the participants of the event to the area of the Medical University Clinics, from where those interested in the biography of Hirszfelds set off on an organized guided walk. Courtesy of Prof. Beata Sobieszczańska of the Department of Microbiology of Wrocław Medical University, we toured the office where Professor Hirszfeld worked for years. The event culminated with the screening of a film about Ludwik Hirszfeld titled “Mensch”, directed by Paweł Wysoczański.
