Weave-UNISONO international project for Małgorzata Cebrat, DSc

We are pleased to announce that the project of Małgorzata Cebrat, DSc, head of the Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Immunology, entitled: “ GenoDrone – Genotyping drones’ sperm cells to explore reproductive features in Western honeybee” has been selected for funding under the NCN Weave-UNISONO competition for bilateral or trilateral research projects for teams from Austria, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg or Belgium-Flanders and Poland. The grant received 94% of the possible points. It will be carried out jointly with  Ajda Moskric Ph.D. from the Agricultural institute of Slovenia in Ljubljana. The amount of funding for IITD is PLN 737 490.

The GenoDrone project is a joint initiative of two research groups from Slovenia and Poland, aiming to improve knowledge of the reproductive processes of honey bees (Apis mellifera). The main focus is on resolving key aspects of bee reproduction, such as unique features of spermatogenesis, variation in the sex-determining gene, and assessing the effectiveness of copulation control.
