We are proud to announce that the Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy, Polish Academy of Sciences is a partner in the consortium implementing the PACMAN project, which was the only one to receive funding in the prestigious Virtual Research Institute (WIB) competition. An international panel of experts gave the highest rating to the project “Personalized antibody-drug conjugates activated by matrix metalloproteinases for solid tumors (PACMAN)”, submitted by a consortium of scientific units from Wrocław and Warsaw. PLN 72,854,995 from the Polish Science Fund has been allocated for its implementation.
The consortium is led by Wrocław University of Science and Technology, with other project partners including: the Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy, Polish Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, Wrocław University, and Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences. The Hirszfeld Institute has received funding in the amount of PLN 8,855,079.35, and the research will be conducted by a team led by Elżbieta Pajtasz-Piasecka,PhD, DSc.
The project focuses on developing a new generation of personalized cancer therapies that combine therapeutic and diagnostic approaches. Researchers will work on conjugates, i.e., special combinations of antibodies and drugs (ADC) which, unlike current solutions, do not need to penetrate cancer cells to work. In practice, this means more precise delivery of anticancer drugs with less risk of damage to healthy tissue.
This is a particular achievement for the Institute, as it is already the second IITD PAN research team to receive funding under the WIB program, one of the most competitive and elite instruments for supporting biomedical research in Poland.
The Institute’s participation in the PACMAN project confirms the strong position of the IITD PAN as a leading center for immunological and translational research and its real contribution to the development of modern oncology.
Congratulations!
