As part of the 28th European Film Festival (Festival de Cine Europeo), taking place in Santiago de Chile from 12 to 17 May 2026, 26 films from European Union countries are being screened. Poland is represented by the film “Mensch”, directed by Paweł Wysoczański – a moving documentary about the life and work of the eminent scientist and physician, the patron of our Institute, Professor Ludwik Hirszfeld.
The film’s premiere took place on 13 May 2026 at the Cineteca Nacional de Chile as part of the festival, and was attended by representatives of the Polish diplomatic corps, the academic community and medical students from Chile. The event was attended by Michał Świetlik, the Polish Ambassador to Chile, who, prior to the screening, emphasised the significance of Professor Hirszfeld for global science and Poland’s scientific heritage.
Due to the high level of interest, the film was also screened on 14 May 2026 during an additional showing at the Museo Histórico de Carabineros de Chile.
During the meetings, participants were given copies of the book „The Story of One Life” and promotional materials from the IIET PAS. The biography of Prof. Ludwik Hirszfeld attracted a great deal of interest and will also be made available to the Polish community in Chile.
