We are pleased to announce that researchers from our Institute have been selected as recipients of funding in the NCN Opus 30 and Sonata 21 competitions:
–Marta Sochocka, PhD DsC from the Virology Laboratory – NCN Opus 30 grant in consortium with the Wroclaw Medical University and Łazarski University in Warsaw. Our Institute is the project leader; the project title is: “Investigation of mechanisms leading to peripheral immune cell dysfunction and congenital and acquired immune response disorders in women and men in the development of cognitive deficits and Alzheimer’s disease”; the total amount awarded for the grant is 3,294,862 PLN. The results obtained are expected to contribute to a better understanding of the role of immune processes in the development of cognitive deficits and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
–Krzysztof Mikołajczyk, PhD from the Laboratory of Glycoconjugates – NCN Sonata 21 grant titled: “The use of modified exosomes in the neutralization of Shiga toxins,” project funding: 2,247,606 PLN. The study concerns the use of modified exosomes as carriers capable of binding and neutralizing Shiga toxins produced by selected bacterial strains. The aim of the project is to evaluate the effectiveness of such exosomes in reducing cellular toxicity and their potential as an innovative therapeutic strategy in the treatment of infections caused by Shiga toxin-producing bacteria.
