Summary of the conference ‘Modern cancer therapies — from academic research to patient treatment’ – launch of the Network and signing of the agreement

The most significant and groundbreaking event of the conference was the formal launch of the Academic Network of GMP-compliant ATMP Manufacturing Laboratories and the signing of the agreement establishing this initiative.

This event was not only symbolic but, above all, strategic – it marked the real beginning of the development of a nationwide system of cooperation in the field of advanced therapies. It was emphasised that this is the start of a process designed to accelerate the development of immunotherapy and the implementation of modern treatment methods in Poland.

The Network was initiated by leading scientific, clinical and research centres, and its aim is to integrate expertise in the manufacture, quality control and clinical implementation of advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs), such as cell therapies, gene therapies and tissue engineering.

The agreement was signed by the following organisations:

  • the Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Wrocław,
  • the Świętokrzyskie Oncology Centre in Kielce,
  • the Regional Centre for Blood Donation and Transfusion in Poznań,
  • the Medical University of Warsaw.

The signing of the agreement was regarded as a milestone in the development of Polish medicine – a step towards:

  • increasing access to modern therapies for patients,
  • building national technological and manufacturing capacity,
  • reducing dependence on foreign technology suppliers,
  • strengthening Poland’s position within the European research and innovation system.

The Network’s initiative forms part of a broader systemic context – it addresses the need to integrate GMP infrastructure, develop translational research and devise coherent regulatory and organisational solutions in the field of advanced therapies.

It was also emphasised that the establishment of the Network is not a one-off event, but the start of a long-term process aimed at bringing about a tangible improvement in the availability of innovative therapies and their effective implementation in clinical practice.
