Work has begun at the Ludwik Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of the Polish Academy of Sciences on a mini-grant entitled ‘Validation of a method for determining the probability of pregnancy by measuring sTNFR1 concentrations, with a view to its implementation in the diagnosis of recurrent embryo implantation failure following in vitro fertilisation’.
The grant will be carried out as part of the Science4Business – Nauka dla Biznesu project, funded by the European Funds for a Modern Economy (FENG), under Task No. 1 ‘Development Incubator’, pursuant to contract No. MNiSW/2025/DPI/279.
The team comprises: Izabela Nowak, PhD, DSc (Principal Investigator for Pre-implementation Work), Karolina Piekarska, PhD, Marta Dratwa-Kuzmin, PhD, Prof. Katarzyna Bogunia-Kubik, and Agnieszka Tarnowska, MSc Eng. The research will be conducted at the Laboratory of Immunogenetics and Tissue Immunology at the IIET PAS.
The aim of the grant is to validate the measurement of soluble tumour necrosis factor receptor alpha (sTNFR1) as a potential biomarker for the early detection of a predisposition to recurrent embryo implantation failure following in vitro fertilisation (RIF), as well as to assess its usefulness in predicting the risk of miscarriage. Combining information on sTNFR1 concentration with an analysis of its genetic variants may contribute to a faster and more precise diagnosis of RIF, which offers the opportunity to improve the effectiveness of infertility treatment and to achieve a successful full-term pregnancy and the birth of a child.
