Krzysztof Tupikowski, MD, PhD, DSc

Urologist, researcher, leader in technological innovation in oncology

Krzysztof Tupikowski, MD, PhD, DSc, is a doctor and researcher who focuses his professional work on building bridges between traditional oncological urology and the world of modern digital technologies. As Head of the Department of Oncological Urology at Wrocław University of Science and Technology and Head of the Urology Unit at the Lower Silesian Centre for Oncology, Pulmonology and Haematology (LSCOPH), he combines daily clinical challenges with the search for innovative methods to improve the diagnosis of urinary tract cancers.

International experience and research coordination

His career has involved years of intensive work within a global medical research network. Dr Tupikowski is the author of numerous scientific papers published in prestigious medical journals. He has extensive experience in carrying out international research projects, having served as national coordinator and principal investigator in numerous phase II and III multicentre clinical trials conducted in collaboration with leading oncology centres worldwide.

A visionary of digital transformation: AI and PRAISE-U

Believing that the future of medicine depends on the wise use of data, Dr Tupikowski leads Poland’s largest prostate cancer screening study, carried out as part of the prestigious European PRAISE-U project. Its aim is to implement an organised system for the early detection of cancer, based on the latest knowledge and treatment algorithms.

Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a special role in his work. He leads research projects (including INFOSTRATEG I and CAIDX) aimed at creating intelligent tools to assist radiologists and urologists in the precise detection and characterisation of cancerous lesions. For Krzysztof Tupikowski, AI technology is not merely a theoretical concept, but a practical tool designed to shorten the patient’s path to effective treatment.

Science with a human face

He emphasised his ties with Wrocław’s academic community by obtaining a postdoctoral degree in 2024 at the Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of the Polish Academy of Sciences – the venue for the conference ‘Modern cancer therapies – from academic research to patient treatment’. As an expert at the Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tariff System (AOTMiT) and an active participant in dialogue with patient organisations, he strives to ensure that modern therapies and technologies are available to every patient in need.
