Łukasz Łaczmański, PhD, DSc, prof. IIET PAS

A leader in molecular diagnostics and a pioneer of genomic technologies in Poland

Łukasz Łaczmański, PhD, DSc, is an eminent scientist and laboratory diagnostician with over 20 years’ experience, whose career has focused on implementing the most advanced genetic technologies into medical practice. As Deputy Director for Scientific Research at the Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of the Polish Academy of Sciences, he is helping to lay the foundations of modern science at an institution dedicated to the development of innovative therapies and personalised medicine.

Key pillars of his professional and academic work:

  • Initiator and Founder of Research Structures: He possesses unique expertise in establishing advanced diagnostic units from scratch. He has successfully set up the Genetic Diagnostics Unit and the Molecular Endocrinology Laboratory. Since 2019, he has headed the Laboratory of Genomics and Bioinformatics at the IIET PAS, which serves as a key technological hub for modern genome research.
  • NGS Expert: He is a leading advocate and specialist in next-generation sequencing (NGS). His research and implementation work give real diagnostic significance to next-generation sequencing methods, making them a tool available for precise medical diagnostics.
  • Bridge Between Science and Clinical Practice: With over two decades of experience as a laboratory diagnostician, Dr Łaczmański successfully bridges the rigorous world of molecular biology with the needs of modern medicine. His habilitation (2016) and subsequent appointment as an institute professor are the result of many years of research into the molecular basis of diseases, which is reflected in the mission of the IIET PAS – the transfer of knowledge ‘from the laboratory bench to the patient’s bedside’.

Łukasz Łaczmański, PhD, DSc, prof. IIET PAS is a key figure in the development of Polish bioinformatics and genomics; his vision and managerial skills in his role as director enable Polish science to be effectively positioned within the European medical research landscape.
